bicycle checking

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, more and more people have joined the cycling team, and bicycles have become a tool for many people’s daily travel, weekend travel, and exercise and fitness. However, many newcomers who have just stepped into this field usually do not check their bikes before riding, so that problems such as mechanical failures occur during riding. Especially before a long ride, it is very necessary to check the bicycle, which can effectively reduce the risk of failure during the ride.

Therefore, there are some tips for you to do a quick check on your bike before traveling for your reference.

Brake system

It is very important to ensure that the braking system works stably before traveling. Then when we check the brakes, we usually first check whether the stroke of the brake lever is too short, whether the brake pads/rear pads are rubbing against the disc or the rim, and also check whether the thickness of the brake pads needs to be replaced.

Chain

The cleaning and lubrication of the chain is a key factor in determining the quality of your ride. A chain that is too dry will make a very rough friction sound during riding. Therefore, we should check each link of the chain before riding to see if there are problems such as chain breakage, deformation and serious wear, and at the same time, clean and lubricate the chain to ensure the working efficiency of the chain.

Round Group

Before riding, the front and rear wheel sets should be rotated to see if there is any serious yaw problem. At the same time, each spoke should be checked to see if there is any looseness or broken bars/caps.

Thru axle/quick release lever

After checking the wheel set, check the quick release lever that fixes the wheel set to ensure that the quick release lever is tightened.

Tire

The tires on the wheels are also very critical, and the most common problem we encounter when traveling is probably a punctured tire. Therefore, we should check the tread, air pressure, and sidewall of the tire before traveling. At the same time, we should also check whether there is any foreign matter on the surface of the tire.

Screw

The screws of handlebars, pedals, cranksets, rear derailleurs, brakes, seat tubes, seat cushions, and discs should be checked before going out to ensure that each screw is at the standard torque value.

Variable speed

Before traveling, make sure that the transmission system can be shifted smoothly, and test and check each gear one by one. If there is a problem with any gear, you should seek a technician to adjust it in time.

The above are some suggestions for bicycle checking before travel. You can go to the nearest store to check these parts with the assistance of technicians before traveling. If there are any problems, they should be solved in time.
