mistakes intalling bike

Whether you’re a big cyclist or a novice cyclist, who hasn’t made some mistakes on the bike? For example, when the new bike is installed, the vehicle accessories are installed incorrectly, the equipment model is not matched when the accessories are upgraded, the fault judgment is wrong, and there is wasted effort in disassembly and installation. No one is perfect! Today, I will take you to see what other mistakes are easy to make…

  1. The front fork is installed incorrectly

More and more people choose to purchase vehicles on the Internet, but after beginners get the vehicle, if they choose to assemble the bicycle by themselves, but due to lack of experience, often during the installation process, the front fork of the bicycle is likely to be installed incorrectly. And it is very likely that after the installation, this error was not discovered at the first time, and it was even discovered after riding for a long time.

  1. The headset is installed too tightly

The headset system is the steering system fixed to the front fork. Many people think that they can tighten the headset by simply turning the bolts on the headset cap with force. However, the bolts between the stem and the steering tube are often installed too tightly, and the steering of bike will be very tight, which will cause inconvenient operation of the front of the bike when riding, which will lead to a series of bad things.

  1. The quick release lever is not locked

Occasionally, during the tedious installation process, the quick release is forgotten to be locked, and the adjusting nut is often turned clockwise to improve the clamping force of the quick release. Often, the clamping force is too large to push the quick release lever to the closed position, and it simply locks and remains open for a long time. However, for safety reasons, the quick release lever should be aligned with the frame when in the CLOSE position.

  1. The pedals cannot be installed

We all know that the pedals of bicycles are divided into left and right, and L is the left side and R is the right side. When installing, you must first find the mark to distinguish the left and right, but many people have realized the left and right, but they still cannot be installed during installation, and they cannot be tightened after rotating for a long time. In fact, one of the key points to remember about bicycle pedals is that they must be tightened by hand in the forward rotation method, that is, whether it is left or right, it is to rotate forward to tighten, and to rotate backward to loosen. This must not be installed in reverse, otherwise the consequences will be very serious.

  1. Tire pressure is too high

The act of inflating tires too high is often a mistake many people make. Although the tires at higher air pressure will not snake bite, and will greatly reduce the grip of the tires, but will reduce riding comfort.

Generally, you will choose a slightly lower tire pressure for the best grip and comfort. However, reducing the tire pressure too much can also lead to snakebite and other phenomena, so we should try the specific value within the tire pressure setting range, and check the tire pressure regularly!

  1. Screws are too tight

The material of the bicycle is getting lighter and lighter, and many materials cannot be locked with a lot of force, otherwise the equipment will be damaged. If the torque value exceeds the torque value marked on the accessories, it will cause the threads to slip or the parts to be tightened too tightly. Easily cracked or broken.

In fact, most parts of the bike do not require so much torque at present, especially carbon fiber material parts, the tightening torque value is very low, and it is very prone to problems. It is recommended to buy a torque wrench and operate it strictly according to the torque range.

  1. Seatpost is stuck

It’s easy to avoid carbon fiber seatposts getting stuck on aluminum frames. A stuck or very firm seatpost is indeed a very common problem, and it also occurs on bikes with aluminum seatposts and carbon frames or on aluminum seatpost and steel bikes.

Use special anti-tightening paste on carbon fiber parts, don’t use lubricant, don’t use lubricant to avoid this situation – on the contrary, you should use special anti-tightening paste for bicycles, which is available in many bike shops, related manufacturers and brands There are Finish Line, Muc-Off and Shimano. Lubricants and other lubricants can cause carbon fiber bike parts to swell, which means that when they get stuck, it becomes difficult to move them.
