This summer came late this year, and the fashionable and not frenetic early summer also began to show its power. Under these circumstances, if you want to maintain a good riding condition, on the one hand, you need to consider the time you spend out and about, and on the other hand, you need to choose an excellent cycling suit.
As a cycling enthusiast, you must have heard or felt the concept of “moisture wicking” because it is a regular function point of cycling clothing. But have you ever wondered how this moisture wicking is achieved? Why are some cycling clothes quick-drying more efficient? Today, we invite the senior fabric engineer to answer your questions.
First of all, the “moisture wicking” function of cycling clothing is essentially a unidirectional moisture-wicking process that controls the flow of water molecules through the fabric, allowing sweat to transfer and evaporate from the body surface to the outer surface. ) in two steps.
If you have carefully read the washing label of cycling jersey, the cycling jersey with a large proportion of nylon has better moisture absorption and sweat wicking performance. This is because the fiber structure of nylon is mostly shaped cross-section fibers, and the capillary phenomenon formed by the grooves on the surface can quickly absorb, transfer and evaporate the sweat on the skin surface, so as to achieve the purpose of rapid moisture absorption and perspiration. -FEEL DRY FAST (zero-touch quick-drying technology) is achieved on this basis.
In addition to using the characteristics of the special-shaped cross-section fibers to increase the rate of moisture absorption and perspiration, there are also means to change the structure of the fabric weaving to achieve moisture absorption and perspiration. For example, the mesh of the inner layer of the fabric is woven a little larger, and the outer layer is woven a little smaller, resulting in a pressure difference in water movement, which promotes the movement of sweat from the body surface to the cloth surface, and achieves the effect of moisture absorption and perspiration (differential capillary effect).
The above two are the most basic and conventional moisture wicking methods. On this basis, we have added various black technology to the cycling clothing fabric.
Using different fiber hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties to match multi-layer unidirectional moisture-conducting fabrics, the inner layer (the surface that contacts the skin) is made of hydrophobic material, and the outer layer is made of hydrophilic material, and the wetting gradient effect is used to achieve the quick-drying effect of moisture absorption and perspiration; adding various Chemical auxiliaries that alter the hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties of fibers…
It is precisely because the moisture wicking method can be used alone or in combination, the moisture wicking rate of different cycling clothing fabrics is slightly different, and with the continuous development of technology, plasma, photocatalytic treatment, electrospinning and other technologies are added. Cycling garments are getting better and better at wicking moisture.
Therefore, the cycling clothing you wear is not an ordinary piece of clothing, but a special piece of equipment with a full sense of technology, which makes your body surface dry and comfortable to the greatest extent while riding, and better enjoy the fun of riding.
The “out-of-stock tide” brought about by the epidemic has made it difficult to find a bike in the cycling circle. Even if some brands can order a bike, the delivery time varies from a few months to more than half a year. There are many bike fans who can’t wait to turn their attention to […]
Whether you’re a big cyclist or a novice cyclist, who hasn’t made some mistakes on the bike? For example, when the new bike is installed, the vehicle accessories are installed incorrectly, the equipment model is not matched when the accessories are upgraded, the fault judgment is wrong, and there is wasted effort in disassembly and […]
With the full popularity of the disc brake system for road bikes, the road bike market has completely resolved the debate between disc brakes and rim brakes. It can be said that disc brakes have completely taken over the rim brakes. But in road disc brakes, there is another debate, so is it better to […]
Today, most mountain bikes on the market are equipped with front fork shock absorbers, and even many gravel bikes are equipped with micro-travel shock absorbers in order to cope with more complex road conditions. There is enough suspension travel on a bicycle to measure the bumps that the bicycle can absorb, so what kind of […]
